Atlantic Masters swimming club chairperson Fergal Madden is delighted to present Mike Swan LOM Galway Lifeboat and Mike Cummins from Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit with a cheque for €7466. The Galway based swimming club was set up in 2015 and now boasts over 60 open water swimmers with a range of sea swimming abilities from first time toe dippers to elite channel swimmers.
Over the years the club and its members have built strong relationships with organisations in the community and have participated in swimming events that raise money for charities across the county. Arising out of that the club decided that they wanted to create a local event that would raise much needed funds for two charities that are closely connected to the sea. From this the Atlantic Lifeboat swim was born and the club held the inaugural Atlantic Lifeboat Swim on Saturday the 15 th of June. With 120 swimmers taking part in the main 2k swim and 20 people taking part in the 300m Try a Swim the day was a huge success so much so that the date has been set as the 13th of June 2020.
Events like these don’t happen without a great team effort and support from local businesses and communities. A big thank you goes out to Atlantic Masters Swimming Club members, RNLI Galway, OMSCU, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Pierce Purcell, Swim Ireland, Irish Water Safety, Civil Defence, Deputy Mayor Gabe Cronnelly, Galway City Council and our sponsors, Sweeney Oil , CGA Technology and Bluebird Care Galway.
